On August 7, 2019, the Second China-LATAM Think-Tank Meeting on Belt & Road Financing Support was held in Beijing. This seminar focus on discussing the financing prospects and opportunities in energy, electricity, oil and gas, ports, railways, highways, airports, water resources and social infrastructure, and to share investment financing solutions for the Belt and Road Initiative Sino-Latin American project.
JIA Hui, Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Service Connections (BNRSC), Fernando Marcondes, partner of Brazil's L.O. Baptista Law Firm,PANG Kuixia, Deputy-Secretary-General of the Asian Financial Cooperation Association, and many other Chinese and foreign guests attended the meeting. In the opening speech, JIA Hui mentioned the strong interest of Chinese enterprises on investing in Brazil and the importance for both sides to pursue reliable partnerships. Subsequently, PANG Kuixia, Deputy-Secretary-General of AFCA, introduced the background, purpose, membership composition of AFCA, especially six professional committees such as “Belt and Road” of AFCA. It expresses the willingness of providing platform support for financial cooperation in Asia and Latin America as well as Belt and Road infrastructure investment and financing.
Rebecca Maduro, a representative of Brazil's L.O. Baptista Law Firm, introduce the investment situation of Chinese enterprises in Brazil's energy infrastructure and the regulatory framework of Brazil in this field.
Subsequently, GUO Yao of CNPC Economics &Technology Research Institute and WANG Lei of Zhonghong Capital expressed their concerns about the stability and continuity of the Brazilian government's overseas investment policies. In response to this problem, Guilherme Kronwald Barbosa of XP Investimentos, the largest investment company in Brazil, Ana Karina from Machado Meyer, ZHANG Jun from Demarest and the partners of L.O. Baptista had all express their positive and optimistic attitude towards the policy direction of the Brazilian government and the investment and development prospects for two countries in the future. Brazilian lawyer Luiz Eduardo Vidal Rodrigues facilitate experts and representatives of enterprises and law firms from both China and Brazil exchanged views on Brazil's current demands for energy infrastructure projects, how Chinese enterprises have been investing in Brazil and the current Brazilian Regulatory framework.
The China-LATAM Think-Tank is a platform jointly established by the BNRSC, Brazil's L.O. Baptista Law Firm and Brazil's GRI Infrastructure Club. It aims to strengthen the relations between China and Latin American countries through the construction of the "Belt and Road Initiative" to meet the demand of Latin American region to attract investment.
